An archeological dig in 2010 uncovered Bury St Edmunds Bronze Age origins. Additionally they uncovered Roman artefacts. The town was a royal borough on the Saxons and obtained its title on account of it being the burial area of King Edmund The Martyr, who was killed from the Danes in 869.
